Activity Sheets, tightly aligned with the OpenStax College Algebra text, and designed for use in class as part of an active lecture.  During the 2020-2021 pandemic, the activity sheets were used successfully in both group and individual settings in hybrid and fully online learning environmentsThis resource includes activities formatted both as accessible Word documents, for ease of use under the CC-BY 4.0 license, and in pdf form to preserve historically the intended appearance on the page.These activity sheets align tightly with the OpenStax College Algebra textbook and an available MyOpenMath Course called the College Algebra Western MD Consortium (MOST), an inter-institutional effort comprised of mathematics faculty, instructional designers, and libriarians from Frostburg State University, Allegany College of Maryland, and Garrett College.

The content is related to an aspect of building or maintaining a Civil Society— topics that affect students' personal or professional lives on a daily basis. The realistically scaled solar system is surprising because nothing is visible due to the presence of many different scales. That is why it is usually rescaled in animations or illustrations. This is nice but gives us a wrong sense of distances and sizes. This Demonstration is intended to show the solar system's different scales in their full glory.

Since it is hardly possible to see anything when the real scales are used, controls have been added to modify the sizes of the celestial bodies.

The attached Word file contains a survey administered to Deborah Devlin's Frostburg State University College Algebra students. The course used Open Educational Resources (OER) including a free of cost textbook, homework manager, and class activities. The survey was administered at the end of either the final in-term test or the final exam, in person, on paper.
