In this module we will explore the different sampling methods to obtain representative samples from a population. We also learn about the relative advantages and disadvantages of each method.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Reasons for sampling
    • Random Vs. Non-Random Samples
    • Sampling Bias and Variability
    • Random Sampling Methods – Simple, Stratified, Systematic, Cluster and Multistage random samples
    • Non-Random Sampling Methods – Voluntary Response and Convenience sampling
    • Sample surveys, sampling errors
    • Best method of random sampling
    • Sampling distributions

Lab - Data Collection, Organization and Sampling Methods

Chapter 1 contains two labs, one on data collection and its organization  and one on exploring different types of samples. Individual instructors can either use these labs as they are or modify them according to their needs.

These two labs deal with data collection and organization, and selectig different types of samples.
