Successful College Composition Text used in 20SU ENG-096
by Marti Grahl 4 years, 5 months agoJim Niessner allowed me to choose a text to use with the summer ENG-096 Writing Strategies for College Success course. I chose Successful College Composition (3rd Edition), and so far I am very pleased.
The LINK TO FULL TEXT goes to http://gsuideas.org/SCC/Communicate/1.1%20Becoming%20a%20Successful%20Writer.html for an interactive full text, chapter-tabbed website. Please note that this online text has the title of Writing for Success, not Successful College Composition. The big selling point for me was that at the bottom of that page is a link to a D2L course package, http://gsuideas.org/SCC/D2LCourseforSCC.zip which includes the textbook set up in modules, plus quizzes and discussion boards. I have embedded this in my D2L course and used the modules that suited the instruction needed, along with supplementing with my own materials, YouTube videos, etc.
The ACCESSIBLE PDF, Successful College Composition, mirrors in content what’s on the website and D2L course in spite of the title discrepancy. It’s 273 pages, and I had one printed and spiral-bound for me to have here as reference rather than flipping through a bunch of webpages.
I was confused by the book title vs. the website book title, but I figured it out. There is an original OER called Writing for Success, offered at https://open.lib.umn.edu/writingforsuccess/ but it is HUGE (654 pages). It’s online in a bunch of different places, and I’ve ignored it. The shorter text is the way to go, combined with the D2L course. If students wanted to get a printed copy, it wouldn’t cost much.
